Product Description
Inuit sculptor, Nuna Parr has been creating art from stone for 40 years. Parr lives a traditional Inuit lifestyle relying on hunting and carving for his livelihood in the Nunavut territory of Canada located just south of the Arctic Circle. Parr's serpentine carvings have received international acclaim for their graceful movement and natural flow with the stone's grain.

Nuna Parr often portrays the animals of the Arctic in his carvings. His deep respect and understanding of wildlife is evident in his carving of a "Dancing Bear". Capturing the fluidity of a bear's natural movement, this sculpture is both powerful and fanciful.

Stone sculpting is a traditional part of the Inuit people's cultural heritage. Inuit hunters honored the spirits of the animals they relied upon for survival by carving their images from stone. Stone carvings were also used as amulets to ward off evil spirits, as part of shamanic rituals, and for trade.

This stunning original sculpture by Nuna Parr is a fine representation of Inuit stone carving as well as an outstanding piece of contemporary art.
