Jamdani Mask in Dusty Rose

Jamdani Masks by Maka Maka.

In India, Jamdani is recognized as a  symbol of identity, dignity and self-recognition.  Jamdani is a time-consuming and labor-intensive form of weaving because of the richness of its motifs, which are woven directly on the loom using the discontinuous weft technique.

A few master weavers are recognized as bearers of the traditional Jamdani motifs and weaving techniques, and transmit the knowledge and skills to family members.  Jamdani has been denoted as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO and dates back to 14th century Bengal, India.

Maka Maka chose Jamdani fabrics for its PEM Shop mask collaboration to fit with the philosophy of the museum’s thoughtfully curated collection.

Maka Maka is a brand that offers sustainable, artisan-made, and organic home decor and fashion products that focus on minimizing the negative impact of pollutants that are an outcome of the industry. Founded by Mitun Chaudhuri in 2009, Maka Maka contributes to Artisan communities across the globe and works to support and revive traditional dying crafts that are an integral part of humanity’s intangible cultural heritage.
