This beautifully illustrated book explores Nick Cave’s newest work as featured in the 2017 exhibition at Mass MOCA. This book will take readers through Cave’s largest installation to date – a series of immersive environments made up of a dazzling array of colorful found objects, from wind spinners to ceramic birds, all amid images of guns and teardrops. A play on the phrase “innocent until proven guilty,” the Chicago-based artist’s latest installation Until is a visual response to the epidemic of gun violence and its intersection with race relations in the United States today. Alongside images from the exhibition, this book features an installation diary, an essay by exhibition Curator Denise Markonish, commentary by David Byrne and Lori E. Lightfoot, and an excerpt from Claudia Rankine’s Citizen: An American Lyric.
Playtime, an exhibition featuring this artist, is on view February 10 to May 6, 2018.
